Level 1-2 guided cycle tour
Day 1 Journey to Kiel-Holtenau
Individual journey to Holtenau or Kiel train station. From the station the Bus 91 will go regularly to Holtenau/ Friedrichsort. Should you arrive by car parking places can be found close to the ship at the Tiessenkai. Check in time will be 6 pm. If you arrive earlier you can store your luggage on the boat and use the time until dinner to explore the surrounding area. Of course bicycles can be used already. Otherwise there is the possibility to go on a harbour tour or for a coffee while watching the ships passing by.
Please note that on this cycle tour, the tour schedule and route is strongly influenced by wind and weather conditions, the Captain shall try and follow the below route but it could change partially or significantly depending in weather and sea conditions.
Day 2 Island Ærø (Cycle Tour approx. 61 km/38 mi)
Early in the morning the Flying Dutchman will start the cruise at sea. Very soon we will leave the German territory and cross over Danish waters. At lunch time we will reach the port Marstal on the Island Ærø. From this old seafarer town our first cycle tour will start after lunch. The tour leads around the whole island- one of the most beautiful Danish islands. On the way we will pass pretty villages like Bregninge which is one of the longest one-street villages of the country. Søby und Ærøskøbing known as a fairy tale town show a well preserved medieval townscape. The evening will be spent in Marstal. Do not miss to look at the bathing huts situated southwest of the port – some years ago they were built illegal and by now they already coin the appearance of the village.
Day 3 Islands Langeland (Cycle Tour approx. 40 km/25 mi)
After the morning cruise we will start with our bicycles from Bagenkob on the south top of the Island Langeland. The characteristics of the landscape will be realised soon: thousands of hat formed hills which developed during the end of the last Ice Age. Hence the cycle tour will lead us constantly up- and downhill. We will meet the Flying Dutchman in Rudkøbing where we will spend the night.
Day 4 Islands Langeland, Siø, Tåsinge and Fyn (Cycle Tour approx. 45 km/28 mi)
After breakfast we will point direction north of the Island Langeland – ready to discover four different islands the record at Islandhopping. This is only possible due to the connecting bridges from island to island. First destination is the Tranekær castle with its worth-seeing and ample park and the windmill which is still in use today. Then we will return to Rudkøbing and will leave Langeland by cycling over a bridge to the small Island Siø; again connected by a bridge to Tåsinge. Valdemars Slot (castle) and the lovely town Troense invite for a longer stay. The last bridge will finally lead us to Svendborg on the Island Funen- one of the most picturesque towns of Denmark where we will also stay overnight.
Day 5 Island Fyn (Fünen), Svendborg – Faaborg (Cycle Tour approx. 48 km/30 mi)
Slowly we will start the day after breakfast by cycling through calm residential areas along the coast of Fünen. The first part of the tour is almost even and will mostly lead along the sea. The view will cross over to the island Tåsinge and its countless sailing boats passing through the island channel. Half way of the tour we will leave the coastal area and start the ascent to the so called Funic Alps. Don’t worry- the so called alps only reach an altitude of 100 meters. On the way we will also pass big farm buildings and impressing manor houses. Today’s final destination is Faaborg. Here we will cycle through Pipstorn- a forest presenting burial plots and cultural sites. A stroll through this part of the forest is - for those who are interested - surely amazing.
Day 6 Islands Als und Kegnæs (Cycle Tour approx. 61 km/38 mi)
In the morning the Flying Dutchman will set sail for approx. 2 hours from Faaborg to the port of Fynshav on the Island Als. From the port our bicycles will bring us around the south top of the island and further on to the washed up sand bank which is connected to the peninsular of Kegnæs. From the 18 meter high light tower which is situated at the beginning of the peninsular a nice view to the surrounding islands and the sea can be enjoyed. After a small round we will leave Kegnæs in order to reach Sønderborg after some kilometre. We will stay for the night in t his town therefore the whole evening can be spend for a stroll through the alleys and the park with its impressive palace.
Day 7 Maasholm – Baltic Sea Bath Damp – Laboe (Cycle Tour approx. 49 km/30 mi)
In the morning we will return to Germany by boat. The Flying Dutchman will bring us to the small village Maasholm, where today’s cycle tour will start. Through an even landscape we will pass farms until we reach Kappeln. Take your time to get astonished by the picturesque surroundings and its perfectly preserved mill. Further along the fjord we will reach the smallest town of Germany: Bad Arnis. After a short stop the tour will continue to Lindaunis where we will cross the fjord on a one way flap bridge to be shared with car and train traffic. After approx. 20 km we will reach the Baltic Sea Bath Damp. Here we will go on board and sail to Laboe where one may use the longwhite beach for a refreshing bath in the Baltic Sea.
Day 8 With the boat from Laboe to Holtenau
In the morning our last journey will begin. The Flying Dutchman will bring us back to Holtenau where the tour will end after docking.

Accommodation:
We are happy to introduce the Flying Dutchman of captain Klaas as an open sea two- masted topsail schooner which is now belonging to the fleet of Islandhopping. Due to the considerably security- and navigation technique the Flying Dutchman owns the worldwide permit for sailing tours. Because of the sail size of 480 m2 stages between islands can be managed with rigged sails- of course Captain Klaas welcomes the active help of his guests. The Flying Dutchman was launched in 1903 as a herring lugger. The alteration took place during winter 2004: 10 double cabins and a triple cabin with own shower and toilet were included on board.
The frontal saloon in the deckhouse can be used as a cosy dining area as well as a lounge. The cushioned benches offer enough space for the guests. At the stern one may sit next to the captain and might as well have a try to steer the 39m long ship.
