Cycling Holidays in Switzerland - Lake Route

Welcome to Hooked on Cycling holidays and our cycling holiday in Switzerland. This biking vacation in Switzerland will take you from Constance ( just in Germany) on Lake Constance to Interlaken on Lake Thun, this tour will lead you past another 7 lakes rightfully making the Lake Route. The Rheinfall Waterfall near Schaffhausen, the “Hohle Gasse” in Küssnacht and the Einsiedeln monastery, along with the well preserved cities of Luzern and Zurich are the highlights of this tour however you must also not forget the stunning mountain scenery. This tour does have a few hilly sections mainly on day 5 so we have graded this cycle tour as level 2-3 due to this one day. In general other days are graded level 2.

Day 1. Individual arrival in Constance
Constance is the largest town on Lake Constance and is still quite medieval in character to this day .One of the many interesting facts is that in 1414 Constance hosted the only church council ever to take place north of the Alps.

Biking vacation in Switzerland

Day 2. Constance  – Schaffhausen, 34 miles  55 km
Today you will cycle along the romantic lower Lake through small fishing villages and the well known town of Stein am Rhein. The Canton capital of Schaffhausen is towered over by the Munot Fortress. There are over 170 oriels in the town which testify to the former wealth of the citizens.

Day 3. Schaffhausen – Zürich,  41 miles 66 km
Today you will see the first highlight of your trip which is the Rheinfall waterfall, which you will actually approach by boat. The valley of the Glatt will lead you on to Zurich, the fascinating cosmopolitan Swiss city.

Day 4. Zurich – Einsiedeln, 22 miles 35 km
Today you will cycle beside Lake Zurich towards Rapperswil with its old castle. After which you will then cross over the lake along a dam. Later you will catch a train to Einsiedeln, which to this day is still a popular place of pilgrimage.

Day 5. Einsiedeln – Lucerne, 40 miles 60 km
Today’s cycling will be through quiet countryside and lively villages as you pass Lake Ägeri and Lake Zug. Küssnacht, Wilhelm Tell and Hohle Gasse are all SwissCycling holiday in Switzerland national symbols which you will see today before cycling along Lake Lucerne and reaching the city of Lucerne.

Day 6. Lucerne – Interlaken,  40 miles 60 km
With mountains to the left and to the right as you cycle beside Lake Sarner you will be impressed with the majestic scenes around you.  Later you continue to Lake Lungerer. You will catch the train to get over the famous Brüning mountain pass, then eventually  passing Lake Brienz you will soon reach your destination, the spa town of Interlaken between Lake Brienz and Lake Thun.

Day 7. Departure  or Extension of Trip
Your cycling tour comes to an end after breakfast , there are good train connections to ensure you arrive home safely.
