Welcome to Hooked on Cycling Holidays and our cycling holiday alongside the River Danube from Passau to Vienna. This particular biking vacation we have developed for the experienced cyclists in mind. Now you can cycle the famous Danube cycle way but cover longer distances each day. This cycling holiday alongside the River Danube is a 6 night self guided cycle tour moving on each day. The route from Passau to Vienna is one if not the most popular cycle way in Europe and you can experience these delights on our cycling holiday. We have graded this cycle tour as a level 2 tour due to the flat terrain.

Day 1 Passau
Independent arrival in Passau. You can now explore the city of 3 rivers, Passau, or enjoy the afternoon in the beer garden.

Day 2 Passau – Brandstatt/Eferding 68 km 43 miles Biking Vacation along the Danube
You cycle along the Danube bank in direction to the Schlögener loop. The granite mountains of the Mühlviertel forced the Danube into a 180 degrees bend. You cross with the ferry to the other bank. On the southern Danube bank you cycle into the pictorial Danube market town of Brandstatt/Eferding, your day’s destination.

Day 3 Brandstatt/Eferding – Mauthausen/Enns 63 km 40 miles
Your day’s stage leads you through the upper-Austrian state capital, Linz, with its numerous attractions including the St Florian monastery. After a visit to this wonderful compact city continue to cycle to Mauthausen/Enns the oldest town in Austria.

Day 4 Mauthausen/Enns – Persenbeug 35 miles 55km
First a ferry to Enns and further along the Danube passing Dornach castle and onto Grein. Grein also has a wonderful castle and also the oldest theatre in Austria.

Day 5 Persenbeug to Krems 48 miles 78km
Leaving Perendbeug you cycle through the Nibelungengau to Pöchlarn, where you can find the Nibelungen monument and the birth house of the artist Oskar Kokoschka. The rolling hills and vineyards of the Wachau takes you through the romantic wine villages of Spitz, Weissenkirchen and the gorgeous little village of Dürnstein, where you can still see the jail of King Richard the Lionheart where Cycling holiday in Austriahe was prisoned during one of his crusades. You move on to the city of Krems, where you spend the night.

Day 6 Krems – Vienna 64 km 40 miles
Your last cycling day takes you through the beautiful Tullner fields. Soon you see the beginning of the “Vienna Woods“ and its soft hills. Don’t forget to look for the castle of Greifenstein and the pointed towers of the monastery of Klosterneuburg. Soon you reach the capital city Vienna, a metropolis with charm and heart!

Day 7 Vienna - Passau
Extended stay in Vienna or train ride to Passau.
