Welcome to Hooked on Cycling Holidays and our cycling holidays in Austria. This biking vacation in Austria will take you from the wonderful city to Innsbruck to one of Italy's largest lakes Lake Garda just south of the Dolomite mountains. Along the route you will pass through fabulous towns such as Innsbruck in Tyrol, Merano and Trento in South Tyrol. Connected by the rivers Inn and Adige and like emeralds the lakes Reschensee, Kalterersee and Lake Garda complete this beautiful. Adding to the pleasance of this tour are fruit orchards and vineyards along the way, from flushing to harvesting always in season on the sunny south of the Alps. We have graded this tour as a level 2 self guided tour. On this cycle tour you will cycle on cycle paths in the river valleys of Inn and Adige. Many country lanes between fruit orchards and vineyards. We wll transfer you from Inn valley in the Tyrol up tothe Reschen Pass, then you have a 1200 m downhill with only some short climbs in between. A perfect relaxing holiday.

Level 2 Self Guided Tour
Day 1 Individual arrival at Innsbruck
Today you arrive to the wondeful compact city of Innsbruck . Famous for its old town with city tower and medieval “Golden Dachl” - the Golden roof constructed by MaxMillan . Late afternoon we shall have a welcome meeting and distribution of cycles
Day 2 Innsbruck to Imst 37.5km 60 km
Today you cycle on the old bridle path along the river Inn, at the foot of Martin’s wall and through little villages and hamlets to Stams. Stams has a wonderful Baroque Cistercians monastery. You will then continue via Haiming to Imst, the “Merano of North Tyrol”.
Day 3 Imst to Burgeis/Mals 31 miles 50 km + 40 km bus
Today you cycle along river Inn a little further, passing Monastery Zams to Landeck.Then you will have a bus transfer to Nauders. About 100 m climb up to Reschen Pass. After this short climb you have the wondeful downhill to Lake Reschensee and on minor roads to Mals or Burgeis on the foot of fortress Marienburg.
Day 4 Burgeis/Mals to Merano 40 miles 65 km
At first you cycle to Glurns with its fully intact medieval city wall. Then it is past the ruins of Montani and through Schlanders down to Merano. Along the way you will see the Fortresses and castles (castle Juval of famous alpinist Reinhold Messner) that stand guard on the route. Impressive views of the Ortler massive and Stilfserjoch occupy the eyes on this stage. If you feel like shortening the route you can use the little Vinschgau train that was revitalised in 2004.
Day 5 Merano to Kaltern/Tramin/Auer 28-31 miles 45-50 km
Today see the famous landmark of the Schnatterpeck-altar in Lana and cycle through many fruit orchards and vineyards of the South Tyrolean wine region, past fortresses, castles and ruins such as Hocheppan ( with its famous frescos) and the “dome in the country” St Pauls on Lake Kalterer See. Overnight in one of the picturesque wine making townsof Kaltern, Tramin or Auer.
Day 6 Tramin/Kaltern/Auer to Trento 28 miles 45 km
Today you are mainly on the river Adige, sometimes through vineyards to Salurn where the language border between German and Italian runs. Famous Trentino vineyards cover the hills left and right of the dyke-cycle path. Visit the famous old town of Trento with the dome and castle Buonconsiglio.
Day 7 Trento to Sirmione/Desenzano/Lake Garda South 30 miles 50 km + boat tour
You continue to cycle on river Adige to the old Tyrolean border town Rovereto to Mori. Here the tour leaves the river and turns west to Lake Garda. After a brief climb on Passo S. Giovanni (150 m) you head down to the lake and reach Torbole and cycle on to Riva. From here you take a boat tour of the whole length of Lake Garga to Sirmione/Desenzano on the south side.
Day 8 Individual departure or extra days on Lake Garda
Note
Please note that only limited accommodation will be available during the Football European Championship in Innsbruck from June 10 to 19, 2008. If you plan travelling during this time, you are kindly requested to book as early as possible

How to get there
You can fly directly to Innsbruck with BA ( this route us being taken over by Easyjet in the summer ) or Fly to Munich or Salzburg and too Innsbruck by ttrain. You can depart from Bergamo or Verona with Ryanair or travel to Venice of Milan for departure by the major airlines.
