Austria - Lake Constance Sporting Tour

Welcome to Hooked on Cycling Holidays and our cycling holidays in Austria. This cycling holiday is around Lake Constance which is locally known as Lake Bodensee which is situated between the countries Germany, Austria and Switzerland. This biking vacation is ideal for those you like to cycle longer stages. During this cycling tour you will visit three countries. Your tour will start in Constance on the south shore of the Lake, You will cycle to the famous waterfall on the Rhine at the town of Radolfzell before continuing clockwise around the Lake via Friedrichshafen, into Austria and Bregenz before entering Switzerland and back to Constance. This cycling holiday is for four nights and is a level 2-3 tour although it is graded this way purely on daily distances rather than terrain. Lake Constance lies between the Austrian, German and Swiss Borders and has some of Europe’s most stunning scenery as its back drop and also some glamour within its neighbouring towns.

Day 1. Individual arrival in Constance
On arrival if you have time why not take the chance to visit the “flower Island “ Mainau island or take a walk through the old town of Constance. The European church convention chaired by the German Kaiser Sigismund which fundamentally changed the Latin church, met here from 1414-1418 in the cathedral and the council building. The most famous victim, the Czech reformer Jan Hus, was executed there in 1415. The aquariums in the Sea Life Centre and the Archaeological Museum are also recommended.

Day 2. Constance – Radolfzell – Stein a.R. Constance, 50 miles 79 kmBiking vacation around Lake Constance
From Constance you will cycle along the Gnadensee and into the old imperial town of Radolfzell. You will continue on along good pathways over the Höri peninsula to Stein am Rhein, which is full of beautiful houses adorned with frescoes and where you can have an excellent lunch along the Lake promenade. You will continue on along the lake shore through well kept Swiss fishing villages on your way back to Constance.

Day 3. Constance – Friedrichshafen – Bregenz, 40 miles 65 km
From Constance-Staad you will take the car ferry to Meersburg with its ancient Merovingian castle. You will cycle through vineyards to the Zeppelin town of Friedrichshafen, where the museum and the harbor are worth a look. The tour continues on through orchards to the Bavarian island town of Lindau. With a view of the Alps, you will cycle around the Brengenz harbour and reach the end of your stage for the day.

Day 4. Bregenz – Constance, 43 miles 69 kmCycle tour in Austria , Switzerland and Germany
The start of today’s tour will lead you through the Rhein delta, an important nature conservation area. Near Altenrhein you will cross over the border to Switzerland, where you will find the market hall; the last building of the artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser. You will cycle back to Constance mainly through orchards and the small towns of Arbon and Romanshorn.

Day 5. Departure
After breakfast you may return home.
