Welcome to Hooked on Cycling Holidays and our cycling holiday in Austria. This biking vacation in Austria will take you from Salzburg to Vienna from some lovely countryside. We have graded this cycling holiday as a level 2 cycle tour. This bike tour is nature and culture at its best. You will start your cycle tour in the home-town of Mozart, Salzburg and cycle through the famous Salzkammergut with its blue lakes and untouched nature. Always with high mountains in view but always in the valleys of the great rivers and lakes. Continuing your tour, you will reach the Danube Valley with romantic castles, cosy villages, vineyards and a well prepared bike path along the majestic river, the River Danube cyclway. The unforgettable ending of your tour is the Austrian capital, Vienna, with its countless sights to visit. This tour mostly flat but with some hilly stretches in the Salzkammergut, completely flat in the Danube Valley.

Day 1 Salzburg
Arrival to Salzburg. Use the extra time for a walk through the picturesque old part of this fascinating town.

Day 2 Salzburg – Attersee 28 miles 45km
Today you leave Salzburg and cycle along an old railroad track. You will cycle to lake Mondsee and soon you reach the soft hills of the Attergau and Lake Attersee, which is the most favoured recreation area for locals and visitors alike.
Day 3 Attersee – Traunsee 25 miles 39 km
Today you will pass through on your bike the romantic valley known as Weißenbachtal to reach the banks of lake Traunsee.Then you will transfer by
boat (or train) to Gmunden, the former imperial capital of salt.
Day 4 Traunsee – Lambach - Linz 20 miles 32km by bike, train to Linz
This cycle stretch leads you via Laakirchen und Steyrermühl to Lambach, from here you take the train to Linz, the capital of Upper Austria. Linz has many Museums , a castle and a great medieval main square. A recommendation is too take the cable car ride ( with bikes ) to Postlingberg a baroque pilgrimage church , a fairy land and grotto which is great for young and old alike . Once complete take the downhill cycle back to the town.
Day 5 Linz – Grein/Ardagger 36 miles 58 km
Today you can enjoy a visit of the monastery of St. Florian and Enns, the oldest town of Austria. Your destination is the romantic baroque village of Grein (with the oldest theatre of Austria). Now east of Linz the Danube cycle trail returns to the green and fertile Austrian countryside. A short detour today to St Florian Monastery and pilgrimage site where Anton Bruckner is buried beneath the famous Bruckner Organ. Afterwards continue along the route via Enns the oldest town in Austria. Enns boasts not only Roman but also Baroque and Renaissance heritage within the towns architecture .
Day 6 Grein/Ardagger – Wachau 47 miles 76km
Today you cycle passing the region of Strudengau and Nibelungengau , you reach the famous Wachau, recently nominated as a UNESCO World Culture Heritage. Visit the unique Benedictine monastery of Melk or try the local wine at one of the Heurigen (typical wine taverns).
Day 7 Wachau – Tulln – Vienna 39 mles 62 km by bike , train to Vienna)
Enjoy the bike tour through impressive villages such as Weißenkirchen and Dürnstein. Passing the medieval town of Krems ( you can also visit the impressive benedictine monestary of Gottweig), you will reach Tulln. Train transfer to Vienna.
Day 8 Vienna
