Cycling Holidays in Germany - The Beer Tour

Welcome to Hooked on Cycling Holidays and our cycling holidays in Germany. This particular bike vacation in Germany allows you to explore the lovely region of Bavaria. This cycle tour is a level 2 self guided bike tour.  Along this tour of romantic Franconia you will be able to experience and taste the Bavarian brewing tradition. You will cycle along the Beer Cycle Route in the Aisch Valley which has an average of one brewery per kilometer making it the area with the highest concentration of breweries in the world. Along the route you will be able to enjoy the laid-back atmosphere in beautiful beer gardens. You will also have the chance to discover cities such as Rothenburg, Nuremberg and Bamberg, which impress with their medieval townscapes.

Level 2 self guided cycle tour

Day 1 Individual arrival in Rothenburg ob der Tauber
This city is the embodiment of medieval city romanticism and was eternalised by artists such as Spitzweg and Richter.

Day 2 Rothenburg o. d. T. – Ansbach 34 miles 55 kmBiking vacation in Germany
Today you will cycle from the Tauber Valley to the nearby Altmühl Spring. You will continue past Zollernburg Castle in Colmberg along the German Castle Road towards the former imperial residence of Ansbach with its impressive Rococo castle.

Day 3 Ansbach – Nuremberg 46 miles 75 km
Today you will follow the cycle path of the German Castle Road past Wasserburg Castle in Lichtenau towards Roth, where you should take the opportunity to visit the Duke’s castle of Ratibor. You will then come to the Rhine-Main Canal which you will follow towards Nuremberg.

Day 4 Nuremberg – Bamberg 43 miles 70 km
Today you have an option: The picturesque, eighty kilometre valley route of the Regnitz Cycle Path runs through towns and villages along back roads and agricultural tracks along the banks of the Regnitz. Running parallel to this route is the approx. 70 kilometre long canal route directly along the Main-Danube Canal. Both routes can also be combined and can be shortened by taking the train for a portion of the route. Your destination for the day is Bamberg, the “Beer Capital”.

Day 5 Bamberg – Neustadt a. d. Aisch 34/43 miles 55/70 kmCycle tour in Germany
The first part of today’s route leads you back along some of yesterday’s route. You can shorten the route by taking the train to Hirschaid (price not included). After Hirschaid you will follow the valley of the small Aisch River to Neustadt.

Day 6 Neustadt – Rothenburg o. d. Tauber 38 miles 60 km
Your last day of cycling leads you to Bad Windsheim, were you will be able to admire the beautiful Old Town as well as the Franconian Open-Air Museum. Historic buildings have been reconstructed here on a large open air site. In the Museum’s guesthouse you will have the opportunity to taste the home brewed beer before continuing your cycle. Once you have returned to Rothenburg you will be able to bring your holiday to an end against the town’s medieval backdrop. Don’t miss a town tour with the night watchmen!

Day 7 Individual Departure
After breakfast your Beer Tour unfortunately comes to an end.
