Cycling Holidays in Canada - Niagara Greenbelt & Wineries

Welcome to Hooked on CyclingHolidays and our cycling holidays in Canada. This particular biking vacation in Canada is in the region of Ontario. This cycle tour is available as a level 2 self guided bike tour. Arriving into Toronto where you spend your first night you will have the opportunity to explore this great city. You then transfer to the Niagara region where you shall commence your cycle tour. This cycling holiday in Canada covers five distinct communities within the Niagara Greenbelt.

Cycling Holidays in Ontario

7 Nights/8 Days

Day 1  Saturday: Arrival in Toronto Cycling Holidays in Ontario
Arrival in Toronto and if you have time explore this great city, maybe take a ride to the top of the CN Tower.

Day 2  Sunday:  Toronto to Niagara Falls by train, to Fort Erie by bike (approx. 25 miles 40km)
Your transportation to Niagara Falls is by train departing from Union Station, easily accessible in the downtown area of the city. After a relaxing two hour rail journey arrive in Niagara Falls station to pick up your cycle. Let the cycling adventure begin at the nearby Niagara River Recreation Trail. Head directly to Niagara Falls to enjoy this world famous attraction. Following the river south past the falls area, experience the tranquility of the river and a quiet trail to Fort Erie. View Buffalo, New York’s skyline from across the water, and head on to popular summer beach hamlets along the shores of Lake Erie.

Day 3  Monday: Fort Erie to Thorold (approx. 38 miles 60km)
Enjoy the 24km Friendship Rail Trail to Port Colborne, a peaceful rural journey paralleling the shores of Lake Erie. Consider a stop to explore the harbour area of Port Colborne before saying goodbye to Lake Erie and connecting with the Welland Canal Trail. Following this historic H20 highway, the Welland Canal, letting the biking trail transport you from industrial times, to present day. You will cycle past rugged grasslands and through scenic nature points. Arrive in Thorold to watch the ships go by from a peaceful perch over looking Lock #7.

Day 4 Tuesday: Thorold to Jordan / Vineland (approx. 19-38 miles 30 - 60km, several route options supplied)
Breaking away from the canal trail, enjoy cycling along meandering country back roads taking in scenic Greenbelt vistas. Add a challenge to the ride with climbs and descents in the Short Hills area and along Niagara’s escarpment, or simply follow the route to the nearest Cycling Holidays in Ontariowinery or fruit stand for a day of sampling some of Niagara’s bounty.

Day 5 Wednesday: Jordan / Vineland to Niagara-on-the-Lake (approx. 25 miles 40 km)
Today you cycle to Lake Ontario to join the eastward Waterfront Trail, stop in Port Dalhousie at one of the many lake view cafes, restaurants or to take a spin on the antique carousel. Then you continue east and back into the Greenbelt, a fitting entry into the picturesque town of Niagara-on-the-Lake. 

Day 6 Thursday: Niagara-on-the-Lake (approximately 19-38 miles 30- 60 km, several route options supplied)
Enjoy the quaint old town, exploring on bike or foot. Marvel at the old homes, gardens, and shops. See a play. Learn about local history and legendary battles. Visit more wineries and sample some culinary delights. 

Day 7 Friday: Niagara-on-the-Lake to Niagara Falls by bicycle (approximately 14 miles 22km), to Toronto by train.
Today is the end of your tour, you can enjoy a ride upstream along the banks of the Niagara River. Stop in the historical town of Queenston before cycling under the forest canopy and up the Niagara escarpment. Take in the view from up top before continuing onwards stopping at some of the many points of interest along the way. End your day at Niagara Falls train station where you will leave your bike and relax on the two hour ride back to Toronto’s Union station.

Day 8 - Saturdays: End of your Niagara cycling adventure.
