Tour Details

Andalusia is a beautiful region to take a self-guided cycling holiday. A wonderful climate and fabulous scenery await you on this self-guided bike tour. There is nothing better when the sun lights up the limestone cliffs of the region and pure white-washed facades of the Pueblos Blancos – the white villages shine from the green countryside. Take some shelter from the silver-green olive orchards you will find along the way.

The hills often rolling provide ideal terrain for a cycling holiday. You shall see Moorish villages, pre-historic cave paintings and Roman architecture which will make for an interesting historical backdrop. Citrus trees, holm oaks and cork oaks a mass on the countryside leading to the Sierra de Grazalema. It all adds to a varied landscape for cycling you shall encounter.

This cycle tour starts and finishes in a beautiful town, of which poet Rainer María Rilke wrote: “I have searched everywhere for the city of dreams and have finally found it in Ronda”. It is also an ideal place to take an extra night to allow time to explore.

The highlight of today is your destination of Zahara de la Sierra which is now in the Provence of Cadiz, it is quite simply the most stunning while village or  Pueblos Blancos. As some of the furthest inland white village, it is some say the most picturesque and stunning white village in the whole of Andalusia.

Today is a little more challenging and you cycle through Grazalema itself on the way to Benacaz. Grazalema is located in a high valley over 800m in the Sierra del Endrinal and dominated by the magnificent rocky outcrop known as Peñon Grande, the pretty mountain village of Grazalema is the most popular base for visitors to the Natural Park. The park around the town is a vast protected area of rugged limestone mountains. A unique microclimate has developed where a wide range of flora flourishes, such as the rare Spanish fir (pinsapo) that grows in the Sierra de Pinar close to Grazalema.

Day 5 From Benaocaz to Jimena de Libar 27 miles 43km 400m ascent

Grazalema is a lively village whose steep, cobbled streets are immaculately kept and are lined by whitewashed houses with windows covered by wrought-iron rejas and plant pots spilling over with colourful flowers. Now your route takes you in the direction of your start Ronda. You shall cycle through several more quaint villages along today route such as Ubrique and Cortes de la Frontera before reaching your destination Jimera de Líbar. Here you take the train to Benaojan and 5 minutes later you enter the door of your cosy rural hotel.

Day 6 From Jimera back to Ronda 14 miles 23km 700m of ascent.
