Riding from winery to winery, past Venetian villas and ancient water mills, this Veneto cycling tour perfectly balances culture, gastronomy and unforgettable scenery.
Castelfranco Veneto
Some roads are quite steep on paved road, though they are quite and safe for cycling.
The most difficult stages are on day 3, and 5, whereas the first and the last day of cycling are quite easy on flat roads.
It is a requirement of booking this tour with Hooked on Walking that you have suitable travel insurance which covers you for the chosen activity and for emergency evacuation and hospital care.
Arrive in Castelfranco Veneto and settle into your hotel. Take time for a leisurely stroll through this charming walled town, whose remarkably well-preserved medieval walls still define its historic centre. Strategically located between Venice and the Alps, Castelfranco Veneto has long been an important crossroads of trade and culture. It provides a charming and atmospheric introduction to your Italy cycling holiday.
After breakfast, your cycling in Veneto adventure begins along the Sentiero degli Ezzelini, following a canal through flat countryside. The route gradually leads you towards the hills and the beautiful hilltop town of Asolo, officially listed among Italy’s most beautiful villages and poetically nicknamed the “City of a Hundred Horizons”.
From Asolo, you continue on quiet secondary roads, with views of vineyards and distant mountains, until you reach Bassano del Grappa. Set at the foot of the Venetian Alps, Bassano is famous for its historic wooden bridge over the River Brenta and for its namesake spirit, grappa. A visit to the grappa museum is highly recommended.
Today, you leave Bassano behind and cycle through gentle countryside towards Italy’s most famous wine route — the Prosecco Route. En route, you may wish to stop in Possagno to visit the impressive Tempio Canoviano, dedicated to the sculptor Antonio Canova.
A panoramic road offers sweeping views of the valley on one side and the mountains on the other, before joining a quiet cycle path alongside a canal of the Piave River. A final ascent through vineyard-covered slopes brings you to Valdobbiadene, one of the capitals of Prosecco cycling.
The day begins with a steady climb towards the village of Santo Stefano, followed by one of the most beautiful cycling roads in the region. Snow-capped Alpine peaks often frame the horizon, creating a striking contrast with the green vineyards below.
The terrain today is hillier, with short but sometimes steep climbs. However, the extraordinary views are more than a reward for your effort. Passing through Follina, home to a beautiful Cistercian abbey, you continue to Pieve di Soligo, set among the heart of the Prosecco Hills.
An exciting and challenging day of cycling in the Prosecco Hills awaits. After an initial climb, you pass through the small village of Refrontolo, located directly on the Prosecco Route. A descent leads you to Vittorio Veneto, a historic town formed from two medieval centres.
Leaving the town, you climb gently past the peaceful Revine Lakes before returning through vineyard landscapes to Pieve di Soligo. A highlight of the day is a visit to the Molinetto della Croda, a beautifully preserved water mill still in operation.
Your final cycling stage takes you once more through the rolling hills of the Prosecco region before reaching the impressive Castel San Salvatore. From here, you descend onto the plains, passing through Susegana and crossing the Piave River.
Following quiet roads and dedicated cycle paths, you arrive in Treviso, a refined Venetian town criss-crossed by canals and encircled by intact city walls. Celebrate the end of your Veneto cycling holiday with a glass of wine in Piazza dei Signori, Treviso’s elegant main square.
Your cycling holiday in Italy comes to an end after breakfast.
