Passau
It is a requirement of booking this tour with Hooked on Cycling that you have suitable travel insurance which covers you for the chosen activity and for emergency evacuation and hospital care.
Independent arrival in Passau. You can now explore the city of 3 rivers, Passau, or enjoy the afternoon in the beer garden.
You cycle along the Danube bank in the direction of the Schlögener loop. The granite mountains of the Mühlviertel forced the Danube into a 180 degrees bend. You cross with the ferry to the other bank. Once you have arrived take a walk to the viewing gallery above the town for some spectacular views.
On the southern Danube bank, you cycle into the pictorial town of Aschach and further onto the city of Linz. If the full distance is too long you can catch a train from Eferding into Linz. Things to visit in Linz include St Marys Cathedral, the beautiful old town and the Postlingberg to name a few.
After a nice evening in the upper-Austrian city of Linz, with its numerous attractions you set off by bike passing the St Florian monastery. You continue along the Danube cycleway to cycle to Enns, which is the oldest town in Austria. Visit the old town before setting off again for the last few kilometres before reach Ardagger or Bad Kreuzen.
Now you are in the rolling hills and vineyards of the Wachau which direct you through the romantic wine villages of Spitz, passing Melk with its impressive Abbey, a must see site.
Passing Weissenkirchen and the gorgeous little village of Dürnstein, where you can still see the jail of King Richard the Lionheart where he was prisoned during one of his crusades. You move on to the city of Krems (or nearby towns), where you spend. You are now cycling through the beautiful Tullner fields. Soon you see the beginning of the “Vienna Woods“ and its soft hills. Don’t forget to look for the castle of Greifenstein and the pointed towers of the monastery of Klosterneuburg. Soon you reach the capital city Vienna, a metropolis with charm and heart! You can return the bikes in Tulln or Klosterneuburg and take the train into Vienna if this day is a little too long.
Extended stay in Vienna or return home.
