Itinerary

Day 1Passau

Independent arrival in Passau. You can now explore the city of 3 rivers, Passau, or enjoy the afternoon in the beer garden.

Day 2Passau – Brandstatt/Eferding 64/75 km 40/47 miles

You cycle along the Danube bank in the direction to the Schlögener loop. The granite mountains of the Mühlviertel forced the Danube into a 180 degrees bend. You cross with the ferry to the other bank. On the southern Danube bank, you cycle into the pictorial town of Aschach and further onto Brandstatt or Eferding.

Day 3 Brandstatt/Eferding – Ardagger/Bad Kreuzen/Grein 85 km 53 miles

Your day’s stage starts cycling the short distance to the upper-Austrian state capital, Linz, with its numerous attractions including the St Florian monastery nearby. After a visit to this wonderful compact city, you continue to cycle to Mauthausen/Enns the oldest town in Austria, further along, the Danube passing Dornach castle and onto Grein. Grein also has a wonderful castle, also the oldest theatre in Austria.

Day 4Ardagger/Bad Kreuzen/Grein to Krems 53 miles 85km

Leaving Perensbeug or Marbach you cycle through the Nibelungengau to Pöchlarn, where you can find the Nibelungen monument and the birth house of the artist Oskar Kokoschka. The rolling hills and vineyards of the Wachau take you through the romantic wine villages of Spitz, Weissenkirchen and the gorgeous little village of Dürnstein, where you can still see the jail of King Richard the Lionheart where he was prisoned during one of his crusades. You move on to the city of Krems (or nearby towns), where you spend the night.

Day 5 Krems – Vienna 80 km 50 miles

Your last cycling day takes you through the beautiful Tullner fields. Soon you see the beginning of the “Vienna Woods“ and its soft hills. Don’t forget to look for the castle of Greifenstein and the pointed towers of the monastery of Klosterneuburg. Soon you reach the capital city Vienna, a metropolis with charm and heart!

Day 7Departure

Extended stay in Vienna or return home.

Note: occasionally we stay in neighbouring towns which means actual days distances could vary slightly.
