Arrival to Salzburg. Use the extra time for a walk through the picturesque old part of this fascinating town, maybe visit Mozarts house! If you have time maybe also visit the Schloss Mirabell and the castle.
After leaving Salzburg you shall shortly reach Oberndorf. After the visiting the ‘Silent Night’ chapel in Oberndorf, you will cycle through extensive forests to Tittmoning. From here the Nature Adventure Trail ‘Unterer Inn’ runs until Burghausen. Here you can visit the stunning old town and the biggest castle site in central Europe, indeed it is the longest castle complex in the world! It was first constructed in 1025.
Today you continue along the river Inn which follows the German/Austrian border to the Gothic town of Braunau. This area is well known locally for its numerable bird colonies. The path then continues to Obernberg. A little further you reach Reichersberg where it is worthwhile to visit the Monastery. Just like a string of pearls the small towns along the river Inn appear and without question, one of them is the Baroque town of Schärding with its famous colourful row of houses on the main square called the ‘Silberzeile’. This is now your overnight stop.
You continue to cycle along the river Inn until the town of Passau where 3 rivers meet, indeed this is where you continue the cycle tour along the famous River Danube. We highly recommend a tour around town including a visit to the dome with its biggest church organ in the world. Now you cycle along the Danube via Obernzell and Engelhartszell. Engelhartszell is known for having the only Austrian Trappist monastery. You then continue through the nature reserve Donauleiten until you get to the Schlögener Schlinge.
The well-known ‘Donauschlinge’ is one of many highlights on this particular cycle tour. Aschach, Ottensheim and Wilhering, three small towns along the Danube, pave the way for your grand arrival into Linz, the region’s capital. In the old historic part of town, countless cafes and inns invite you to take a well-deserved break. Finally, you cycle to Enns, the oldest town in Austria. Enns has a lovely town square with a tower and museum.
Today you cycle along the Danube into the pretty little Baroque town of Grein with is theatre, maritime museum and castle. Now via the once feared Strudengau into Austria’s wine region and onto Marbach, Maria Taferl is home of a pilgrimage church located impressively high above the Danube.
Today you continue along the Danube cycleway towards Melk. In Melk visit the stunning monastery. In the Wachau, Austria’s wine region you shall pass through many small romantic towns like Weißenkirchen, Dürnstein and Krems, all will enchant you. Now from Krems, you take the train to Austria’s capital, Vienna, with its countless sights and interesting places to see.

Great holiday with everything very good as indicated above on the survey. My only recommendation would be that you give us cycling instructions from the train station in Vienna to the hotel. (2023)
We enjoyed the trip. All the arrangements worked very well. There were some sections of the cycle path that were closed due to work & so we ended up on the opposite side of the river, however with the phone app it was easy to self navigate from there. All hotels were well positioned & comfortable & suited purpose. With some of the attractions along the way, we would have appreciated a bit more information as to how to access and whether the entry is permitted and how much time it takes and what is the cost. There is so much to see! Overall we had a wonderful time. Thanks for your excellent suggestions
