This self-guided biking vacation in the Czech Republic is a superb two-country tour from the ever-popular Prague to Dresden through beautiful scenery. This cycle tour is a great trip through Czech to Germany, two cities with long histories, a symbol of a glorious and often difficult past, and to enjoy the outstanding natural beauty. Prague, the Golden City, is a centre of pulsating urban life, full of historic monuments. On the cycle path along the rivers, Moldau (Vltava) and the Elbe passing through lovingly renovated little villages and idyllic river landscapes. Near Bad Schandau you pass the frontier to Germany. Through “Saxon Switzerland” and the interesting formations of Elbe sandstone massive you enter Dresden now restored to former glory with Zwinger and Frauenkirche.
Prague
Cycling along the Elbe bike path with a few unpaved sections. There are a couple of gradients to negotiate.

Arrive at this pulsating city and start to explore.
This day is entirely devoted to exploring the Golden City of Prague. Visit Hradschin the old King’s Palace, stroll over the famous bridge Karlsbrücke or discover the nightlife of Prague with innumerable cultural events.
Today you cycle along the river Moldau. A few climbs today with lovely fast descents. Admire the mouth of Moldau and Elbe from the palace hill of Melnik. Melnik is the heart of the Bohemian wine-growing area.
Today Via Roudnice you will reach the fortress Terezin. From Terezin only a few kilometres have to be covered to reach the destination of today Litomerice with its beautiful houses.
After only about 25 km you reach the city Usti nad Labem. On the way, you can admire the ruin of the old fortress Schreckenstein (literally meaning “horror-castle”) situated on the right bank on top of a 100 m high steep rock. In the afternoon you reach Decin.
Today you cross the frontier to Germany and soon you see the first rocks of the Elbe sandstone massive. Not far now and you reach the health-spa Bad Schandau. After a look around you continue on your travels to Pirna.
Cycle past bizarre rock formations on the Elbe which flows past the fortress Königstein Kingstone. Visit Europe’s biggest fortification and enjoy the spectacular view on the Elbe valley. Past castle Pillnitz you cycle on to Dresden.
Depart after breakfast.
By plane to Prague and return by train back to Prague at the end of your tour.
