Itinerary

Day 1Individual arrival in Copenhagen.

The Danish capital has plenty to offer, so we recommend arriving early. Take a stroll through the historical city centre or visit the famous amusement park Tivoli. Make sure to walk along to visit the famous mermaid statue.

Day 2Copenhagen to Køge 34 miles 55 km.

For most of today’s first cycle tour, you will ride beside Køge Bay, with the Baltic Sea always in view. You shall see wonderful views of landscapes of the entirely car-free national park of Amager Fælled. For any art enthusiasts, you can visit the Arken Museum of Modern Art along the route. Køge is one of the oldest towns in Denmark and is located right on the coast. The white sandy beaches entice one to take a dip in the cool water. In Køge you shall see not only many local museums but many well preserved old houses of traditional Danish style. The old market square is a must to visit while you relax over dinner or even a cool beer.

Day 3Køge to Næstved 37 miles 60 km.

Today you will say goodbye to the south coast of Zealand and cycle inland where you shall pass through southern Zealand. A magnificent green landscape awaits you with extensive green meadows where forests will seem to surround you all the time. The medieval town of Næstved with its old townhouses is a beautiful location to visit on foot. Why not make a trip to the Rococo castle on the small Island of Gavnø just within the Bay.

Day 4Næstved to Korsør 31-40 miles 50-65 km.

Today by bike you head west the Great Belt. Soon you will reach the small coastal town of Karrebæksmind. If the weather permits the small sandy beach near Enø is the perfect place to sunbathe or a picnic. From now on, you will partly follow the coast, and via the harbour town Skælskør you will reach today’s goal, Korsør. The cosy harbour town has a lively and diverse cultural scene.

Day 5Korsør to Sorø surrounding 40-31 miles 65-50 km

A beautiful bike ride today as you head towards Trelleborg which is worth a shortstop. Here you can see a circular fort built around the year 900 BC where a museum will tell you about life and culture during the Viking age. Once you arrive at your destination Sorø, it is worth visiting the monastery. The old abbey dates from the 12th century is based on the Cistercian abbey of Fontenay.

Day 6 Sorø surrounding to Roskilde 40 miles 65 km.

On today’s cycle tour you will again be passing through many quaint little villages surrounded by lush green meadows. You will come across Ledreborg Castle near Lejre which is an 18th-century palace filled with antiques and paintings. Soon you shall cycle into Roskilde bay and Roskilde town itself. Its cathedral is worthwhile to visit. Since the beginning of the 15th century, the cathedral has been a favoured cemetery for the Danish royal family, and since 1995 it is also a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site. It is worth visiting the Viking ship museum too.

Day 7Roskilde to Copenhagen 25 miles 40 km.

The cycle tour leads you back to the starting point of your bike tour, the Danish capital Copenhagen. As you reach Albertslund you join the cycle route number C99, which leads you almost without traffic into the city centre. In the afternoon there is enough time for you to explore the city on your own. During a stroll, you can fulfil all the wonderful impressions that you have already gained on your bike tour through Zealand.
