Welcome to Hooked on Cycling Holidays and our cycling holiday in France. This particular biking vacation in France takes you on a journey through the Vineyards of Burgundy. Burgundy is a fabulous region for a cycle tour, quiet roads, nice accommodation, many vineyards and domaines to sample wine and great gastronomy. On this cycle holiday in Burgundy, you will cycle through some lovely typical French towns such as Pouilly Fuissé, Saint-Véran, Givry, Santenay, Puligny-Montrachet, Pommard and many more.
You will also benefit from the peace of the cycle track of the Green Way and you will appreciate the natural beauty of this area while making stops infamous city of art like Beaune or Cluny.

Arrival in Beaune a lovely town in the middle of the vineyards. If you arrive earlier enough, Beaune has a wonderful historic centre, take a walk around the little streets, take photos of the historic buildings, sample some local wines or just sit outside a French cafe and watch the evening go by
If you did not get a chance to visit Beaune yesterday, today will give you more time, but first, maybe select one of the cycling options for your first ride. When you return to visit the Hospices de Beaune to get introduced to the Burgundy atmosphere. For children (or adults as well) a possibility of a fun visit to a mustard factory.
After Breakfast, you will head out on your bike tour travelling north. You shall cycle through the vineyards on a lovely cycle path passing through many famous wine-making villages such as Pommard, Volnay, and the Grands Crus vineyards (Montrachet, Batard Montrachet). You will have many wine tasting options all along the route today until Santenay. After Santenay you join a cycle path alongside a canal before you reach your destination situated at the beginning of the Cote Chalonnaise.
Today you shall start cycling along some minor country lanes before you join another bike trail alongside the “Canal du Centre” to reach Chagny. You shall pass near to Rully a nice wine making village and the Chalon Sur Saone region. Dracy Le Fort is a small village on the border of the Côte Chalonnaise vineyards.
Today you shall join the “Green Way” in Givry. Givry is a winemaking village producing the favourite red wine of the French king Henri IV. This bike path is built on an ancient rail line which was the first bike path in the whole of France. During your ride you shall pass through some lovely villages, we are sure you will appreciate the peaceful and lovely roman architecture in Buxy, St Gengoux Le National and Malay. Soon you shall arrive in the town of Cormatin, this is a perfect place to have lunch and have a visit to the castle before you head up to Cluny. The Abbey of Cluny and the stud farm will be another must visit when you arrive. All in all a busy day today!
The last ride today which will take you back onto the cycle path to ride until Macon. The landscape starts to be hillier even if your ride is on the easy bike path. On the route, the Castle of Berze Le Chatel is a worthwhile and romantic place to visit, the lovely view from the road will invite you to do a detour. You will also see the longest European tunnel open for cyclists as you continue the ride through the val Lamartinien with gorgeous views of the Solutre Rock.
The TGV fast train stops in Macon where you can start your onward travels.
By plane to Paris and then by train to Beaune or by train from the UK via the Eurostar.
