Welcome to Hooked on Cycling Holidays and our wonderful cycling holiday in Corsica. This biking vacation is based in the beautiful north Corsica. Corsica is known to be a “Mountain in the Sea” and it offers you the diversity of the most astonishing landscapes. This biking vacation in Corsica is a self-guided cycle level 3 tour due to the high climbs in the region but most days have different options and some are pretty short.

This cycle tour will let you discover the littoral of Corsica as well as its interior. The miles will follow one another but do not resemble each other as the landscapes are different each day. You will meet proud inhabitants of their island who will make you share their enthusiasm and will make you discover the Corsican gastronomy.

Itinerary

Day 1 Arrive Bastia

Arrive at Poretta airport (Bastia) in Northern Corsica and transfer to Bastia which will take around 30 minutes. If you have time to discover the capital of the Upper-Corsica visit the old port which is superb as well as the freely accessible citadel and the old city which offers a wonderful panorama of the sea and the surroundings. For dinner, we advise you to go to the old port which has a particular kind of atmosphere.

Day 2 The Corsica Cape to Centuri 34-43 miles 55 – 69 km, 717/1038 m up

Today you mount your cycle and leave Bastia on a road that follows the sea, passing by the wooded inland which joins the other side of the island and its superb cliffs. The course is strewn with Genoese and Paoline towers as well as old convents and mills. The seascapes with their small fishing ports are splendid. Your stop for the night is on the west side of the Cape. Do not miss the tower of Nonza which overhangs the coast and its black pebble beaches.

Day 3 Centuri to the Gulf of Saint-Florent 34-37 miles 55 - 60 km, 1216/1398m up.

You leave the Centuri to go southward, in the direction of Saint-Florent. According to the chosen route, you will be able to discover the village of Patrimonio, famous in the whole of Corsica for its vineyards. Wine tasting is possible in the cellars of the village. This route offers a superb view of the Gulf of Saint-Florent. In Saint-Florent, do not fail to visit the citadel and stroll around the port and its small commercial streets.

Day 4 The Desert of Agriates to near Ile Rousse 30-50 miles 48 – 80 km, 843/1531m accumulative up.

Today you leave to go to the heart of the Agriates Desert. From hamlet to hamlet, you cross this superb desert which will bring you closer to the sea again. According to the chosen route, you will be able to follow a road that will take you to the heights of Balagne to see superb landscapes before going down towards the littoral and its Genoese Towers. You will arrive soon at Ile Rousse, your stop for the night. Do not miss the sunset on the end of the island which will make you understand why this city was named Ile Rousse. The heart of the city is very animated in the summertime and abounds with colours.

Day 5 Monticello to Calvi 25-31 miles 40 -50km, 600-915m up.

Setting our westwards on your bike into the Balagne you will come acroiss some beautiful little villages such as Sant’Antonino and Pigna. You can explore these on your way to Calvi.
Calvi, with is beautiful beach and lovely views of azure blue sea and with high mountains as its backdrop. Take time to explore the splendid Genoese citadel dating from the 13th century. Also this is the birth town of the famous explorer Christopher Colombus.

Day 6 Calvi Loop ride 49 miles 79km, 1029m up.

Today you can choose between a free day free to explore the city of Calvi, relax on the beaches, do a boat excursion or take the optional loop ride towards Galeria a lovely little town in a pretty bar and quaint harbour. Lovely to have a relaxing lunch hear before heading back to Calvi.
