Welcome along to our walking holiday in Dordogne, France. This is a very popular hiking vacation in south-west France and often referred to as a walkers paradise. The Dordogne itself is known as the most beautiful river in France. Our walk, starting in Souillac and ending in Les Eyzies, follows this magnificent river through its stunning valley. The walking is perfect, and the quantity of sights and attractions along the itinerary makes this an experience not to be missed. This is the area of the Dordogne known a little Britain! This particular hiking vacation in France is in the Dordogne region of South-West France and is a self-guided walking tour. This Dordogne holidays has been graded as level 1-2 meaning that it remains accessible to anyone to explore this stunning region.
Souillac

Arrive in the charming town of Souillac; situated on the main Paris rail line. Visit its abbey and soak up the atmosphere over a glass of wine in one of the towns many cafes.
Today is your first walking day of walking in Dordogne! A short transfer to Rouffillac from where the walk begins. Follow the banks of the River Dordogne, passing through beautiful landscapes as you make your way towards the village of Carsac. Take the opportunity to visit Chateau Fenelon along the way.
A choice today, maybe you could do both! A walk through the deserted countryside that surrounds Carsac or you could take a walk into the town of Sarlat. A magnificent medieval town, Sarlat is the jewel in the crown of the Dordogne. Admire its beautiful architecture, and possibly experience its famous market (Wednesday & Saturday).
Continue to follow the valley, arriving at the hill-top bastide village of Domme. Admire its amazing views of the surrounding countryside below. Explore its pretty quaint streets, and possibly visit its caves.
Walk on to La Roque Gageac, a beautiful village sheltering beneath cliffs that border the river. Along the way take the opportunity to visit Chateau Castelnaud and its museum of medieval warfare.
A day walks out of La Roque Gageac. Explore the gardens at Chateau Marquayssac and then continue onwards to Beynac and visit the magnificent chateau which looms large over the valley. There’s also the opportunity of a boat ride down the river on a local Gabarre.
A transfer to the village of St Cyprien and then it is onwards through the silent countryside to Les Eyzies. This is one of Europe’s most famous prehistoric sites, including attractions such as the Font De Gaume and Grand Roc as well as the National Pre-Historic museum.
Depart after breakfast.
By train from Paris or Toulouse to Souillac. Return by bus Les Eyzies to Sarlat/Souillac and then by train.
