Welcome to Hooked on Cycling holidays and our cycling holidays on Corsica. This particular biking vacation on Corsica is in the northern region of the Island with quiet roads and superb mountain scenes to be amazed at. This is a great sporting cycling holiday in France. Corsica is known locally to be a “Mountain in the Sea” and it truly offers a variety of the most astonishing landscapes. This sporting cycle tour will let you discover the coast of Upper Corsica (or north Corsica) as well as its interior.

You will find on this biking vacation that the landscapes are different every day. You will meet inhabitants proud of their island that will share with you their enthusiasm and that will make you discover the Corsican gastronomy. This cycling holiday on Corsica is a sporting tour covering longer distances each day and we have graded the tour as a level 3-4 tour.

Itinerary

Day 1Bastia

Your stay begins in the afternoon at your hotel in Bastia. This leaves you the time to discover the capital of the Upper Corsica. The old port is superb as well as the freely accessible citadel and the old city that offers a superb panorama of the sea and the surroundings. For dinner, we advise you the old port and its very special atmosphere. Night at the hotel in Bastia

Day 2The Corsican Cape to St Florent. 51-68 miles 82-109km, accumulative up 1407/1917m (max climb 393/365m).

In the morning, you mount your cycle and leave due north, on a road that follows the seashore, and that goes through the wooded interior of the island and rejoins the other side of the island and its superb cliffs while crossing the pass Saint Nicolas (303 meters of altitude). Night at Saint Florent

Day 3Saint Florent to Calvi 41-64 miles 66-102km, accumulative up 997/2118m (max climb 373/691m).

This day begins by a climb (+ 470m altitude) until the church Saint Michèle de Murato. You will then go back down while crossing several small towns of the Nebbio to arrive in the desert of Agriates. The path continues on a small deserted road that passes under the olive groves and overhangs the whole Balagne. The last effort will be necessary to arrive at a small and magnificent typical town overhanging the Ile Rousse, where you will spend the night.  Around 1000m climbing today.

Day 4Calvi to Porto 47miles 75km, accumulative up 1289m (max climb 407m).

Today you shall cycle along one of the prettiest roads on Corsica if not maybe Europe. Awaiting you will be stunning coastal scenes and crazy-looking wind-shapped rocky outcrops. Today you shall cycle the col de Palmarella, around the Gulf of Girolata, and lastly the Nature Reserve of Scandola.

Day 5Rest day in Porto or Loop ride 59 miles 95km, accumulative up 2283m (max climb 1105m).

If you need to rest or legs today then please do! , a chance to dip your toes into the sea on the beach or to relax at your hotel, or for this intrepid cyclist head out on a loop ride over the Col de Sevi.

Day 6 Porto to Corte 53-68 miles 84-115km, accumulative up 2895/3874m (max climb 1480m).

You will discover a new facet of the island. You will climb back towards the center and will cross a renowned region for its numerous cattle & sheep breeding and sheepfolds. Many cows are on the side of the road. This day will allow you to challenge one of the numerous Corsican difficulties the Col de Vegio at 1477m. One of the higlights today will be cycling through the Spelunca Gorge.

Day 7Corte to Lucciana – the Castagniccia 59 miles 95km, accumulative up 3894m (max climb 999m)

You will go deeper in the Castagniccia, the paradise of chestnuts. Your cycle tour drives you from town to town towards the Pass of Pratu (985M) and continues in the heart of a preserved nature where wild pigs are not rare. Indeed you will have a tortal of 4 passes today and will be the toughest day yet. You will be rewarded with wonderful landscapes. Next, you descend towards the coastline where you will spend your last night on the seaside.

Day 8Departure

After your breakfast, departure to the airport.
