Welcome tour 6 night hiking holiday through the Vosges Mountains France. The Vosges Mountains, south of Strasbourg are in the heart of the Alsace region of France. Not only are they a great destination for a walking holiday in France, but they also offer some of the best conditions for wine growing in Europe. Geographically they also mark a clear border between France and Germany, also bearing great similarities to the Black Forest on the other side of the River Rhine as if mirroring them.
This tour has been graded by us at level 2-3 self-guided the distance is only really level 3 on day 4.
This is a trip in the heart of the Alsatian vineyards; its large vintages are spread among authentic villages. Sample these wonderful wines as you take your walking tour through this lovely region. You shall see numerous castles and beautiful villages typical of this wine region as well as the more famous towns of Eguisheim and Munster.

Arrival at Eguisheim, one of the most beautiful villages on the Alsace wine road, 8 km from Colmar nestling in a wonderful green setting, underneath the three castles of Husseren-les-Chateaux. This compact Medieval village with distinctive architectural style and it’s vibrant colour scheme greet you with a warm, authentic charm.
The first ascent leads to “3 Chateaux” in Eguisheim at 600m. After a visit, you continue onto the Hohlansbourg Chateau, which offers wonderful panoramic views over Colmar and the Alsace Plain dotted with numerous little villages. You then rejoin the valley that leads to Munster and spends the second night in the extremely beautiful city of Turckheim where each evening at 10:00 pm, a night watchman in traditional 16th century costume sings as he switches the streetlights off.
Today the walk takes you from Turckheim to Kaysersberg, the birthplace of Dr Albert Schweitzer, the Nobel Peace Prize winner; your itinerary then crosses the area from which famous Alsace vintages originate.
On day 4 you depart from the vineyard area to discover the first summits of the Vosges. From Kaysersberg (250m) you reach the village of Labaroche and the summit of Petit Honack (927 m). After the Croix de WhorPass (840 m), the path leads to Munster, right at the heart of the Vosges Massif.
You leave Munster and ascend in the direction of Wassenberg (746 m). You pass Summit of Muhlenkopf (805m) and descend further down in the valley to discover an area with vineyards and the village of Wintzfelden. Don’t miss out on visiting the local farmhouse where you can taste local specialties!
Taking an extremely beautiful terraced path dominating the Rhine Valley, you walk in the direction of Gueberschwihr which is a gorgeous village. On this road, you can see Celtic religious sites and an abbey before reaching Eguisheim, the village from which the walk started.
Depart after breakfast.
By train to Strasbourg and onto Colmar or plane to Paris and train to Colmar. Then taxi to Eguisheim (around 10km).
