This wonderful biking vacation in Germany will allow you to explore the Bavarian Lakes. On this cycling tour, it will be pure joy, tranquil secluded valleys, alongside lakes with pure freshwater or along the stunning turquoise waters of the young and still untouched River Isar. Enjoy the marvellous views of the majestic Karwendel Alps and stroll through picturesque old towns, richly decorated with flowers and carefully restored old wooden houses. Cycling along on mostly cycle paths and minor roads, with a few short sections on main roads. The route is mainly paved, with some longer sections on forest trails (good condition)

Arrival to south Munich a short transfer (45 minutes) from Munich airport. If you arrive early why not visit the museum of the old fortress of Grunwald or the nearby Bavarian film studios.
Today you will leave Munich by bike by crossing the Forstenrieder Park to Lake Starnberger. You will see one of the most illustrious living addresses around Munich as you depart. From Starnberg, you will cycle alongside the lake cycle path to Seeshaupt. You will be on beautiful roads through ancient Bavarian villages, past lake Ostersee and lake Riegsee to Murnau and on to Lake Staffelsee.
In the morning you will cycle through one of Europe’s largest moor and swamp area, a wonderful nature reserve called the Murnauer Moos. Afterwards, you will bike along the River Loisach through unspoiled nature to the famous Olympic town of Garmisch Partenkirchen (the Olympic winter games have been held here). Today’s stage is kept quite short, to enable you to take the mountain railway up to Germany’s highest mountain, the Zugspitze (2962 m), here you will have breathtaking views across the Alps.
Today you first ascend around 300 m height difference to Scharnitz. From Scharnitz you can cycle directly to your hotel or you can continue slightly uphill through wild and idyllic gorges with green alpine pastures to the very source of the River Isar. Afterwards, you cycle back through the sunny valley with scenic panoramic views to the Karwendel and Wetterstein mountains. Along the route visit Mittenwald and Wallgau. Wallgau, in particular, is an idyllic town with avid traditional Bavarian life.
Today you cycle past Isarwinkel following the crystal clear turquois-blue waters of the young River Isar to the marvellous lake Sylvenstein via the little town of Lenggries. You will bike through lovely rural countryside to Bad Tölz. This was once an important trading place, situated at the crossing of two old trading routes the River Isar and the old salt route from Reichenhall to Allgäu. You will see wonderful impressive richly decorated old buildings so typical of this region.
Today you have a choice, either relaxing in the thermal spa Alpamare or discovering the lovely lake Tegernsee with beautiful scenic views to the lake. Then afterwards you can cycle back to Bad Tölz along the valley of little the brook Gaißbach.
On your last cycling day, you will cycle on the Isar cycle path via Geretsried and Wolfratshausen to Grunwald. Only a few brief ascents have to be managed before you can immerse into the life of Bavaria’s capital Munich. Many points of interest invite you to stay for sightseeing.
