This bike vacation will allow you to explore the well signed and very scenic “Southern Black Forest bike trail” which mostly runs on bike trails and quiet country roads. The bike path is well signposted. You will bike around the southern Black Forest nature park on this cycle tour, where you can enjoy the beauty of the region without even having to think about the little clichés like “Cuckoo Clocks” or “Black Forest Cake”. This tour offers a variety of sights and attractions from mountains and moorlands, relicts of the ice age, quaint old farms, the Rhine and the wine country of Markgräflerland area, spa towns and biker friendly Freiburg. Not forgetting the river valley of the Dreisam and Lake Titi.
Freiburg
Our route runs on bike trails and quiet country roads. However, there are some small sections on low traffic roads and gravel which cannot be avoided.
It is a requirement of booking this tour with Hooked on Cycling that you have suitable travel insurance which covers you for the chosen activity and for emergency evacuation and hospital care.
Arrival in the historic town of Freiburg located at the foot of the Black Forest. Here you shall find many wine taverns to explore if you arrive earlier enough.
Today you take the train from Kirchzarten (just outside Frieburg) yo Titisee. This avoids a pretty hilly section. Then from Titisee, you then bike along the Bähnle bike path, an old railway track, through the charming Black Forest. Your destination is Bonndorf where you can take a side trip to the wildly romantic Wutach gorge.

Here you can visit a number of sites, Castle Hohenlupfen, built on a structure from the Roman times and the town’s landmark, the Convent as well as the museum for agricultural machinery are worth a visit. Now you continue passing Ofteringen and the Marienburg Convent, as well as Wutöschingen with its megalithic tomb. Soon you will reach your destination Waldshut-Tiengen.

Via Beuggen with its pretty water castle, you reach Kaiseraugst, where you should visit the excavation site of Roman relics. From here it is not far to Basel, where you can dig in the rich history and world-famous museums. You can shorten the route to 50km (31 miles) by taking a train.
Today you cycle across the world’s longest bicycle and pedestrian bridge over the “Rheinknie” and reach the spa town Bad Bellingen, where you can rest your legs in the thermal springs if you wish. You continue the short distance to your overnight.
You continue north today on your cycle tour towards Heitersheim and onto Ebringen where you will have an amazing view over the Rhine valley. Passing truss buildings, vineyards and distilleries you make your way through the Schnecken-Valley to Freiburg. On arrival stroll around downtown along the “Bächle”, visit the Minster or the Old Town Hall or simply enjoy the local cuisine Freiburg has to offer.

Luggage service was fantastic and reliable. Bike was fine, but rather not have a unisex bike. Hotel Neuenfels in Badenweiler. Great place, friendly couple, great breakfast
