Bavaria is a wonderful region to take a self-guided walking holiday, spectacular alpine foothills and blue-green lakes. It is understandable that King Ludwig of Bavaria fell in love with his region and built a number of enchanting fairy-tale looking Castles and Palaces. The King Ludwig Way begins in Lake Starnberg south of Munich, this was the area where he died so tragically. The King Ludwig trail takes you through the foothills of the Bavarian Alps passing castles of the Allgau. The most stunning castles of these would be Castles Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau on Lake Schwansee. If you ever watched the 1968 Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, you may recall a castle, this was Castle Neuschwanstein. You shall also experience stunning views over the Zugspitze summit and the Ammergauer Alps.
