Welcome to Hooked on Cycling holidays and our cycling holiday in Spain. This biking vacation in Asturias (the north coast of Spain) we have graded as a level 2 cycle tour. The green north coast of the Iberian Penninsula makes the perfect setting for a cycling holiday. In the distance you see wonderful hills and some more mountainous terrain, you cycle past the coastal ranges of El Cuera and El Sueve in the shadow of the impressive snowy peaks of the Picos de Europa. Passing tiny coves and charming coastal villages, you ride from Cantabria into Asturias.
Some of your routes follow sections of the Pilgrims’ Route to Santiago de Compostela (Saint James’ Way) so you will find ruins and Romanesque chapels along the way. The cider-making capital of Villaviciosa makes a good introduction to Asturian gastronomy before sending you off to the friendly city of Gijon for a tapas feast to celebrate the end of a satisfying journey. Extra nights can be booked to enjoy the beach in Gijon or to visit the outstanding Gothic gem, San Salvador Cathedral in nearby Oviedo.

Arrive in Oviedo, Santander or Bilbao airports and transfer by train or coach to Vilde. Your accommodation is in a nice quiet location situated around 1km from the village. You will need to walk, bike or take a taxi to the village for dinner.
Today you have your first cycle ride in this beautiful region in full view of the Picos mountains. It is a circular cycle ride from your base in Vilde. It is a wonderful undulating tour through the rolling hills on the border between Cantanbria and Asturias.
Today you take a quiet ride into the province of Asturias. If you like, you can stop off to visit the Cueva del Pindal, with its prehistoric cave paintings, or the Romanesque ruins of Santa Tina Church. Cue is a little coastal village (0.5km) just east of Llanes. If you wish you can take the short ride into Llanes for a look around this wonderful Spanish town.
Today you can select one of two options for your cycle ride. The ascent to enjoy lovely views from Cueragebergte, or a gentler ride through green hills. Along the way, there are several spots where you can go for a paddle in the sea along the easier coastal route.
Today once again you follow the pilgrim route the Saint James’ Way along the coast and over the foothills of the Sierra del Sueve.
Today it is downhill towards the coast. Agüero is an estuary town, with its inviting historical centre, was once an important stop on the Camino de Santiago the Pilgrim route which runs along the Northern Spain to Santiago.
The ride for your last day is slightly shorter but starts off with a good ascent. Then from 220 m. you sail down into the city of Gijon and along the beautiful boardwalk of San Lorenzo beach to your hotel.
