On this cycling holiday in Scandinavia, you shall visit three great cities, Stockholm, Gothenborg and Copenhagen. Gothenborg is more known in Sweden as the car metropolis as it is home of Volvo! You will have the chance to not only explore these great cities and see the many historic sites such as the UNESCO world heritage site of Drottningholm Palace. After a train journey to the west coast, you shall cycle south on well signed cycle paths towards Copenhagen. As you cycle on your right shoulder you shall see stunning coastal landscapes and marine life, this is certainly quieter than the hustle and bustle of the city life you have come from. Enjoy the Swedish culinary delights each evening as you pass your evenings exploring your overnight towns.

Route Characteristics
On the west coast of Sweden, you follow mostly well signposted cycle paths, some gravel paths and minor roads. You will have some small sections on roads with a little more traffic. The route is generally flat with some rolling sections.

Take a first stroll through Sweden’s capital and explore some of the many sights and tourist attractions. A must do is to visit the Old Town or Gamla Stan as it is known. This is home of Sweden Royal Palace, stroll through narrow allies, admire the historic buildings and architecture and visit some of the many shops in the area.
Today, cycle beside the shores of Lake Mälaren to the stunning Drottningholm Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage site. This is the former home of the Swedish royal family. Explore the palace grounds and gardens and the hunt out the Chinese Pavilion which dates from the 18th century. Once your visit is complete continue your bike tour across pretty bridges to Södermalm and onto Stockholm. Cycle through the historic streets of Stockholm’s old town, know as Gamla Stan, with its cozy cafés and cobblestone streets. Why not finish your day with a visit to Skeppsholmen, where there is a unique sculpture garden. Spend the night back in Stockholm.
Today you take a train with your luggage to Gothenburg, you leave your bikes at your hotel in Stockholm. Then during the afternoon there will be ample time to explore the city of Gothenburg. You could take a boat tour which is a popular way to see the sites and visit the harbour. Whilst there visit the Maritime museum with this many historic ships. Now stroll along the boulevard Kungsportsavenyn, this street with its pretty houses was designed in the mid-19th century. For those garden lovers of our guests, visit the Trädgårdsföreningen park with its beautiful displays. In your hotel you will find your new bikes for the 2nd section of the trip down the west coast.
While cycling out of town you pass Särö, a very affluent part of Gothenburg. This was the former playground of the ancient royal family and Gothenburg high society. Now outside the city you can enjoy cliffs, pretty bays with marinas as you cycle south. In the late afternoon you reach Kungsbacka, a cozy small town with a lovely old city.
Today you a mixture of landscapes, of course you will have some coastal scenes but also farmland, many with horses grazing. Soon you reach Varberg which has an impressive fortress.
Today is all about coastal scenes today with quaint little fishing villages. See many local handicraft shops. In Träslövsläge you can feast on freshly cooked lobsters or other fish dishes as well as exploring its old town. Soon todays bike ride gets you to Falkenberg which is one of the oldest cities in the region. After a visit you board a train (fare not included) and in 90 minutes you reach Helsingborg for your overnight stay.
You will admire heather-clad slopes and extensive views across to the distant North Pennines via the infant River Caldew, enjoying an ascent of High Pike – the highest point of your journey at 685 metres.
In the morning you catch a ferry across the 4km sea crossing to Denmark (70 SEK, not included) and Helsingør. You have now reached Danish territory. Take your time and visit Kronberg Castle located by the harbour. After your visit continue your bike tour into Copenhagen. Here you will find this a wonderful cycling friendly city with an amazing cycle network around the city. Visit the famous little mermaid and maybe Tivoli gardens and well as the picturesque harbour area.
Depart after breakfast.
Airport Stockholm Arlanda, then take a bus or train to the main train station and by subway or taxi to your hotel.
