Enjoy a wonderful self-guided hiking experience along the Moselle River trail and the long-distance Eifel trail. During the week tour, you shall see Germany’s oldest town, enjoy a boat ride on the Moselle and see the views of the Eifel mountain range. You shall be walking on good footpaths waymarked as official footpaths. Of course, the Moselle region is famous for its lovely wines and you shall be seeing lovely little wineries in what is known as the border triangle. Walking on old Roman roads and trails you shall make your way to Trier via the Saar and Moselle rivers. This pleasant town on the river Moselle charms many of its visitors with its lively old town and 9 UNESCO world heritage sites, which you can explore whilst on a circular walk around Trier. A boat trip on the river offering many panoramic views is a must before you continue your week’s walk with a magnificently diverse stage along the Eifelsteig through wild nature. Lastly, you cross a suspension bridge into the idyllic Kyll valley to your final destination.

The walks are mostly unsurfaced tracks and footpaths through wonderful nature and magnificent views. Longer days can be shortened often by public transport.

Arrive during the day to Perl situated in Saarland, a pretty little town in a wine-growing district.
Today you walk along the river Mosel, which is only separated from the Luxemburg’s border town, Schengen (the European Union free movement area is named after this town), by the river Mosel itself. The start of your hike provides you with a view across what is known as the border triangle between Luxembourg and France. Your route today takes you from this delightful wine-growing region on quaint forests trails and through extensive fields to the Palatinate wine town, Palzem. In Palzem you will come across famous wineries and many vineyards. Here you meet the river Moselle again and why not sit back and enjoy a glass of the best Elbling wines.
Palzem was developed by the Romans and is known not only its wine but the Helfant cathedral with is double towers at its entrance, it is worthwhile a short visit before you set off today. Today you shall experience some lovely views but also a few short but steep ascents. You shall enjoy walking through the lush forest and flourishing meadows. The Mosel is well in view today with some wonderful panoramic sites to see. Nittel was once a Roman settlement with several Roman artefacts found.
Today during your walk you shall see some unique limestone rock formations around the Moselle and Saar rivers. Here you shall also experience some wonderful panoramic views. Also you shall walk through the nature reserve of Nitteler Felsen which is rich in many difference wildlife species. Soon you shall reach the town of Wasserliesch where you catch a train to Trier.
Today you have a chance to visit Porta Nigra a UNESCO World heritage site. This is Germany’s oldest town. You walk along the path called the Traumsteig towards the Petrisberg where you will have some wonderful views. In the afternoon you can take a boat ride along the River Mosel.
Now you join today the long-distance Eifel trail known as the Eifelsteig. This is a day of pure nature, you shall pass the impressive Genoveva and Klausen caves along with some wonderful views across the Kyll River which you can see below meandering through the countryside. You shall see the Burg Ramstein castle on the hillside, now a ruin as you head along the wonderfully scenic Butzerbach valley. After your walk you catch the train back to Trier.
Depart after breakfast.
By plane to Frankfurt, Brussels or Cologne airports and then by train to Perl.
