Come and ride the Gran Fondo Marco Pantani cycle sportive. The Pantanissima is a Granfondo organised by the family of the great Italian cyclist Marco Pantani. Marco was one of Italy’s great cyclist, a fantastic climber who had many a battle with cyclists such as Lance Armstrong in the mountains of the Tour de France. There are two ride distances 111km (69 miles and 2000m up), 152km (95 miles, 2700m up).
The ride starts in Cesenatico Pantani’s home-town. In previous years all riders start together and this is certainly is an experience not to be missed. Once on the open road the bunch soon splits into groups of riders of similar speed, the first 24km (15 miles) is pretty much flat and then you hit the first climb, then the fun begins. This event is not as difficult as the Nove Colli Gran Fondo which we also support, the climbs are more gentle, less demanding with only three to contend with on the longer ride. Over the last climb and the long descent and flat section back to Cesenatico where the crowds await to applaud you.
Our base for this event is a lovely 4-star hotel in the start town of Cesenatico and only a 10-minute ride to the start. It is located right on the beachfront, with a spa, a swimming pool and is certainly a great location for sporting cyclists and families or partners should they come. Here hospitality comes as second nature and a great atmosphere build up. On Saturday when you pick up your bike (should you have rented one) in the afternoon you shall receive your race pack with a number, electronic timing chip and various goodies! You shall be informed of the timing of the early breakfast to enable you to fuel up and have time to cycle down to the race start.
After the event, we are sure you shall meet other cyclists in the bar after dinner and swap stories of the event itself.
