This wonderful walking holiday in Italy allows you to explore the beautiful countryside in west Sicily and well as its rich history and culture. This holiday starts in Trapani, a town rich in history and culture. After two days exploring the ancient town of Erice and the beautiful coastline to the north around Monte Cofano, you head west by hydrofoil to the stunning Aegadi Islands and Marettimo. Marettimo Island is by far the most mountainous of the three, just off the western coast and really is a walker’s paradise. After a couple of days, you take the hydrofoil to Masala before moving to Scopello to walk in the Zingaro Natural Reserve, with beautiful coves and wonderful panoramic views.

During the day arrive at Trapani. You shall stay here 3 nights but if you have time today you can start to explore this enchanting town which is rich in historical palaces and monuments. Trapani was founded by the Elymians, to serve as the port of the nearby city of Eryx (present-day Erice), which overlooks it from Monte Erice. The city sits on a low-lying promontory jutting out into the Mediterranean Sea, it’s a fascinating town.
In the morning a transfer will pick you up at the hotel and take you to the medieval town of Erice where you will admire the church and will walk into the narrow streets. Do not forget to the sample the pastries, the unforgettable almond cakes. Walking excursion to discover the many old churches “Path of three churches” around the town.
In the morning a transfer to the Cofano Natural Reserve. Mount Cofano at an altitude of 659 m, is one summit surrounded by two gulfs, the Cofano gulf and the Bonagia gulf. One of the characteristics of this walk is the different kind of paths, as you follow the coastal path which climbs up to the summit. At the top admire the breathtaking panoramic views.
In the morning take the hydrofoil to the island of Marettimo. You have plenty of time to explore the island and do the first walk to Punta Troia with its castle, amazing the views of the other islands. The ones who want to go on discovering the island can do ”Giro dell’Isola” with a local fisherman around the island to see the remote unapproachable coasts.
Today you can make a walk passing through a fortress of Roman Age and a little church of the Byzantine period reaching a very panoramic point after Pizzo Falcone.
In the morning take the hydrofoil to Marsala. You will visit one of the cellars where a special wine, the “Marsala” is produced, you can sample it if you wish. Marsala’s other claim to fame is that it was the landing place for Garibaldi and his thousand men (the Mille) on May 11th 1860. Later a transfer to Scopello on the north coast.
Your walk will begin from the north into the Zingaro Natural Reserve where a beautiful walk will take you along the paths, with Mediterranean views and charming olive and fruit groves. You will pass many little coves and several points with wonderful panoramic views. Of course, you will have the chance to have a swim should you wish. This coastline on the Gulf of Castellammare is simply breathtaking.

Fly to Trapani where you tour starts. You can also fly into Palermo airport and take the bus or Taxi to Trapani (approx. 1 hour).
