Tour Details

This wonderful walking holiday in Italy allows you to explore the beautiful countryside in west Sicily as well as its rich history and culture. This holiday starts in Trapani, a town rich in history and culture. From Trapani, you take the boat to the Aegadi Islands and Favignana Islands. Once on Favignana Island, you can also reach the Islands of Levanzo and Marettimo. Marettimo Island is by far the most mountainous of the three, just off the western coast, and really is a walker’s paradise. After exploring the Islands on foot head back to the mainland of Sicily and the Zingaro Nature Reserve.

Itinerary

Day 1Arrival to Trapani

During the day arrive at Trapani. Why not explore this enchanting town which is rich in historical palaces and monuments. Trapani was founded by the Elymians, to serve as the port of the nearby city of Eryx (present-day Erice), which overlooks it from Monte Erice. The city sits on a low-lying promontory jutting out into the Mediterranean Sea, it’s a fascinating town.

Day 2Monte Cofano Nature Reserve 4 hours walking 350m up.

Today’s walk is in the Cofano Natural Reserve. The peak is 659m and separates the two gulfs, one of Cofano and the other of Bonagia. Here there are a few paths that take you to the summit of Monte Cofano where you can admire the wonderful views across Sicily or out to sea and the Islands that you have just spent exploring.

Day 3Trapani to Favignana

During the morning catch the hydrofoil to the nearby island of Favignana. The rest of the day is free for you to explore the island. Why not walk to the Castle or even rent a bike to explore the many wonderful caves of the island like Cala Azzurra, Cala Rossa, Lido Burrone, and so on.

Day 4Favignana to Levanzo Island 4.5 hours walking  450m up/down

Today you take the boat to the island of Levanzo. It’s a short crossing. Once you arrive you can follow the coastal path where you can see lovely landscapes often covered in lilac scabious plants. You will pass some deserted stone farmhouses and many olive trees. Soon you will reach the cave Grotta del Genovese., where if you visit you will many marvelous cave paintings and engravings dating from 11 C BC. After your visit return to Favignana Island.

Day 5Favignana to Marettimo Island 2 hours walking 290m up.

Today you can continue exploring the island of Favignana or take the hydrofoil to the Island of Marettimo, this Island really is a paradise for walkers. You will have plenty of time to explore the island and do the walk to Punta Troia and visit its castle. Here you will see some amazing views of the other islands. After your visit return by boat to the Island of Favignana

Day 6Favignana to Scopello

In the morning you take the hydrofoil back to Trapani. Once you arrive you will have a transfer from the port to Scopello for your overnight stay.

Day 7Zingaro Natural Reserve  6 hours walking 500m up/down.

Your walk will begin from the north into the Zingaro Natural Reserve where a beautiful walk will take you along the paths, with Mediterranean views and charming olive and fruit groves. You will pass many little coves and several points with wonderful panoramic views. Of course, you will have the chance to have a swim should you wish. This coastline on the Gulf of Castellammare is simply breathtaking.

Day 8Departure

Depart after breakfast.

How to get there

Fly to Trapani where you tour starts. You can also fly into Palermo airport and take the bus or Taxi to Trapani (approx. 1 hour).
