Why should you book a self-guided walking holiday? Firstly, at Hooked on Walking most of our hiking holidays that we have available are self-guide. Why is this? Well, we personally think it is the best way to experience a walking holiday. Our customers also agree and love the freedom of a self-guided walking holiday. To be able to go at your own pace and explore along the way is a great way to enjoy a destination. You can also have a look at our self guided vs guided page for more information on each of these types of a walking holiday.
If you still don’t like the idea of a self guided holiday then we do have a select few guided walking holidays.
Why Choose A Self Guided Walking Holiday
Value for Money
A self-guided trekking holiday is always going to be cheaper than a guided holiday. This is because you are not having to pay for the guide or for any driver/transport while you are at your destination. Our tour prices are always kept as low as possible so that our guests know they are getting the best deal possible.
Go At Your Own Pace
Each morning, you can set off whenever you wish, stop along the way whenever you wish to and explore along the route at your own pace. You can also enjoy a rest break and maybe even enjoy reading a book while enjoying the views and sounds around you. Whereas on a guided walking holiday you will more than likely have set departure times each day and breaks will be more than likely pre-scheduled. This would be down to personal preference, but we feel being able to stop and see places along the route that YOU want to see is more important.
Know who you are going on holiday with
On a guided walking holiday you won’t know who the other guests are until you are spending your holiday with until you arrive. However, on a self-guided hiking holiday, you will know exactly who you are booked with (or not if you are a solo traveller). Some of the best walking holidays for us have been with friends and family. You also get to spend quality time with people you know and from experience appreciate the time together more.
Even though you are on a self-guided holiday you are not 100% alone. You have the knowledge that if something does arise and you are not happy then you can contact a local support team who will help you solve any problems you may have. On every hiking vacation, our local team’s contact details are in your information pack, we would advise making sure you take these details with you or even add them into your mobile phones before you arrive. That way if you do misplace any paperwork, you have the details at hand on your mobile phone.
Depending on the tour you may have the option of starting your tour on any day. This means you can pick a day to suit you and select cheaper flights to save some extra money. A guided holiday will have set dates which have been fixed to suit the schedule of the guide. You will also be able to add in extra nights. Which means you can have a rest day or spend the day exploring more.
